Jennifer brought the “Life Blood Exhibition” to my attention and once I contemplated the purpose and the idea in its entirety I felt that I wanted to be a part of this special event. I saw Jennifer’s work exhibited on the subject at an exhibition a few years back, and was immediately intrigued with her openness and honesty about menstruation, now even more so since my true feelings were resonating nothing with the word “Femininity”, “Beauty”, and “Life”. I was always keen to the notion that menstruation was neither beautiful, feminine, nor life giving; it was rather disgusting, vial and taboo.
As a woman that decided not to have children the “life giving” aspect bears no relation to how I look at the subject personally, I do not need to have a menstrual cycle, but I looked at it on other levels to really understand the beauty behind it.
In the exhibition I want to explore my worries, fears, taboos, intrigue and new appreciation for menstruation and hope that others will find something through this as well.
